The club was sorry to hear of the passing of Steve and would like to pass on our condolences to his wife Lesley and family.
Steve was a long time member and friend of the club. For several years he ran the colts teams and also umpired for the 2nd XI as well as spending time on the committee. Steve will always be remembered as a cheerful character and often entertained members at social events with his musical talent. He will be sadly missed.

Harefield have been drawn at home to Essex Premier League side Wanstead in the 1st round of the Bertie Joel Cup on the 9th of May. Wanstead in the 2020 season won the Essex Premier league (known at the Premier tier – Gooch division) and came 2nd in both the 2019 and 2018 seasons, having won the ECB national club competition in 2017. They will be a tough challenge for our young 1st XI but a fixture the club is all looking forward to. This is the first time Harefield have entered the competition since 2003. That year we reachead the semi final, beating British Airways, Southgate and Middlesex Tamils before losing to South Woodford in the semi final. The overview scorecards can be found below which include a Richard Mcleod 100 and a two 50's and a couple of 50's for former skipper Akshay Reddy in the cup run. This is the first time Harefield will take on Wanstead with the winner having a home draw to Middlesex Cricket League side Acton and has been described by the Club Cricket Conference as a 'heavy-weight' draw. We played British Airways in round one on 20th May 2003 and won by 6 wickets.

The junior section will be once again led by James Ayling who will be running the 3 teams (under 10s, 11s & 15s) in the Middlesex junior cricket league. Training sessions for the juniors will be on a Friday with the all stars again on a Sunday morning for 5-8 year olds. James will be assisted by a group of coaches including Craig Collett and Harefield CC 1st XI players Stephen Croft and Tom Marshall, all of which are ECB Level 2 qualified coaches.
As a club we pride ourselves on giving juniors a great place to play, learn and enjoy cricket as well as giving opportunities for them to play in senior cricket. We currently have 5 members of our 1st XI who have come through the junior and 4 of these represent the county of Buckinghamshire in senior and junior county cricket. The 2nd and 3rd XI’s also had several players each week who had come through the junior section of Harefield. If you would like to join the club or want more information please contact James Ayling on 07930415314 or email [email protected]. Harefield Cricket Club is proud to announce that our new First XI captain for the 2021 season will be Daniel Ogden, who takes over from Douglas King after five seasons in charge between 2016 and 2020. Dan has been a lifelong member of the club, along with older brother Matthew, having played for every junior, Saturday and Sunday side for the Hares. Dan made his First XI debut at the age of just 15, and has been a stalwart in the batting line-up ever since, regularly making appearances at the top of the club’s runs leaderboard. He has also been involved in the Buckinghamshire CCC setup for many years and has played in the county’s First XI since 2017. Dan said the following about his appointment: “It is an honour to have been named Harefield CC’s new 1st XI captain and it is a really exciting opportunity to work with what is an incredible young group and aim to push for promotion into the HCPCL Division 1. Doug has taken this team through an extremely difficult transition period and put great faith in the younger members of the team, which has put us in a great position for the future. As captain my aim will be to create an environment/set up where every individual can have the opportunity to continue growing and improving, have belief in their ability and achieve their potential but also importantly, one where we can all enjoy and embrace training, game days, the social side and achieve success together. It is an exciting time for the club and looking forward to getting everyone back together sometime in the not-too-distant future.” The club would like to thank Dougie for his five years at the helm. Dougie will stay in a leadership role within the club, taking the position of Director of Cricket (harefieldcc.weebly.com/news/doug-king-named-director-of-cricket).
We would firstly like to thank Doug for his tireless efforts as first XI captain for the last 5 seasons and to wish his successor Dan Ogden all the best as he takes up the mantle. Doug however will not be taking much of a back seat, as he will be stepping into the vacant Director of Cricket role at the club. He will carry on some of the tasks that he undertook as captain to allow Dan to focus on the cricket side of the captaincy. This will include continuing to liaise with kit suppliers, sponsors and the selection and management committees. Doug was not available for a quote relating to the appointment was overheard saying "I'm looking forward to telling Olly what he can and can't do" and "ooo, I wonder if I'll get a parking space?" If 2 or more are level on points if will go down to who is closest with goal predictions (currently 25 goals in 11 games). If 2 or more are still level it goes down to red card predictions and then who has the most amount of correct draw predictions. If nothing seperates 2 or more it will go down to a coin toss.
The final game of round 2 in the sweepstake (Fulham v Tottenham) was suspended due to Covid so we are currently just waiting for this game to be played for the winners to be decided. A table of the current standings will be posted on the website either later on this evening or in the morning. Thank you for everyone who submitted a prediction.
