1st Game (10:30am): Tring Park v Harefield 2nd Game (1:30pm): Amersham v Datchet or Burnham 3rd Game (4:30pm): Winner of Game 1 v winner of Game 2 As we approach the start of the season 2021 and near the end of yet another lockdown Harefield CC would like to take the opportunity to thank Darren Wood for his continued support of the club. Darren has been involved with the club now for several decades both on (which we will get to later) and off field. It is off field support we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge. His support has helped us through the ongoing situation with COVID-19, without this support things would have been an awful lot harder for the club. Whether it has been sponsoring various ground machinery to arranging the evening with Chris Gayle, Darren has been very generous to the club. Not only has this off-field support there are some memorable moments on field which we would like to mention. Here is a story of an early game in the Harefield Career of Tom Day involving Darren. ‘I only played with Darren for a few years when I was a teenager, but it was always an experience. As a guy with multiple tons for the club, some of them pretty big, you'd think that his batting would be the standout, which it could be quite often, but my most memorable moments were him in the field. One catch at 2nd (I think) slip at Boyne Hill, at full stretch over his head, a chance he had absolutely no right to get to, off either Petters, Chuffer or Hally. Another catching Russ one handed at square leg in an intra-club T20 when we're pretty sure he was having a chat and not paying attention! A personal highlight was batting with him at Flackwell Heath against Wycombe Dragons, we must have had a collapse and I came in the lower order and I asked the senior batsman for advice, Darren's only response "don't get distracted by the bowler's man boobs" ... pretty sure I was out that over, laughing. Shocking throwing arm though, in a team of bad arms too!’ Darren Wood’s Harefield stats: Highest score: 153 - 4th XI on 9th May 2009 v Royal Ascot 4thXI Best bowling: 8-2-32-5 - 3rd XI on 6th May 2006 v Ploughmans Scored 4 hundreds for the club between 1995-2011 in 100 matches Took 1 5fer and a total of 35 wickets at an average of 17.17. If you are interested in supporting or sponsoring the club please contact us via email on [email protected] or go on to our sponsorship page for more details.
