Harefield 1st team v Amersham 1st team 12:30pm start
Harefield and old foes Amersham meet once again, but this time in the revamped pooled HCPL. This fixture has been a regular for the past few years and has a strong rivalry going back as far as when Mcleod snr was in his pomp. In the previous 5 meetings (including the 1 friendly) Harefield take the spoils 4-1 including an exciting match last summer, when the Hares in a timed match managed to break through the solid resistance of the Amersham lower order to bowl them out just before the 7pm finish. Harefield go into this one unchanged from the previous 2 fixtures and will hope to build on last weeks improved performance with the ball to register there first league win for the year. Amersham had started off there campaign well this year with a win against division 1 side Tring Park before being washed out last week against Thame. This will be the Hares 1s first home league game this year on what is set to be a lovely afternoon so please do come down and show your support. Stoke Green 2nd team v Harefield 2nd team, 1pm start Harefield meet Stoke Green again after both team secured promotion from Division 4B last year. Both the fixtures last year were highly competitive fixtures with the clubs sharing the spoils one a piece. Like the 1st team, the 2s have no injury or unavailability issues so go with the same side as last week. Stoke Green have started off the current season with a defeat and an abandonment so will be looking to find the form of last year this weekend. This is the first away game for the 2s this year, a ground where they won at last year with D.Evans doing the damage with the ball to take 4/26. Harefield 3rd team v Beaconsfield 3rd team 1pm start (Diary Farm) The 3s play Beaconsfield 3s this weekend looking to get their first win of the season. Having struggled with the bat in the 1st game, the 3s shaped up a lot better last week with the bat before rain curtailed proceedings. The 3s will be once again without their leader Brett Moore due to work commitments, but will be strengthen by the availability of Razwan Hanif. Harefield Sunday XI v Frogs 1pm start timed match The Sunday XI will once again be playing a friendly this weekend. Having started last weekend with a resounding victory over Northwood last time out. The Sunday XI will be without M.Ogden and T.Marshall who will line up in the opposition side. The Sunday XI will be anticipating a strong fixture will bragging rights for the rest of the year at stake at this game. The 1st team travelled away to newly promoted Great Brickhill looking to rewrite the wrongs of the previous week. Skipper King won the toss and made the decision to bowl bearing in mind the weather which was forecast and anticipating D/L would be brought into play.
The first ball of the match initially sent a few shivers down the side of both teams as the ball barely got through to the keeper on the second bounce. Great Brickhill raced to 30 off there first 4 overs, but with over half of these coming through extras, the Hares were giving the opposition a real helping hand. However once Mcleod and King started to control the swing, pressure started to build and Mcleod got the breakthrough with a well-directed short ball caught down the legside. With the introduction of Crick from the pavilion end following King, things started to happen. Crick found great bounce from this end and this produced the wickets of 3 & 4 including the highly regarded and dangerous batsmen Davson which left Great Brickhill 50-3 after 11. The introduction of spin in the middle overs didn’t make things easier from Great Brickhill, with M.Ogden producing a big spinning delivery turning straight through the defences of Brickhills number 5. He was soon to add another to the wicket column with number 6 chipping one straight back. An unpicked googly from Croft left their number 7 utterly bemused as he shouldered arms to this delivery, and he was on his way leg before leaving Brickhill 6 for 114. The Hares continued to chip away picking up regular wickets before rain set in at 158/8 of 36, this was not before Olly Stalder got his first run out for the 1s and Tom Marshall his first 1st team wicket. This bowling performance was much improved from last weeks efforts and on another small ground the bowlers all adapted well, however the extras are something that will need to be reduced in the big games that we have coming up in the next few weeks. We look forward to taking on local rivals Amersham next week who are unbeaten after their 2 games. 1st XI middle order batsmen Ollie Stalder scored a 50 in yesterdays junior county match for Buckinghamshire.
Playing for Buckinghamshire under 17 against there under 18 counterparts. Ollie came in at 3 and scored a match winning 50 (retired) off only 36 balls in a comfortable 4 wicket win for the under 17s. Link for scorecard: https://buckscb.play-cricket.com/website/results/4490168 With the 2nd XI raring to go after the dominant win the week before, hope of a complete game was ruined by the knowledge of the impending weather heading towards Harefield. The only glimpse of hope to get us through the day was shortly ruined by our Captain who managed to lose the toss which resulted in us fielding first.
The bowling attacked opened up with Hirani and Evans. It was clear from the first over of Wraysbury’s intent as after three overs the run rate was touching 8 an over. Throughout the game the bowling kept consistent as did Wraysburys batting intent. Good spells from Hirani (2/19 off 6), Richards (2/27 off 6.5) and Beacham (1/20 off 7) ensured that with intent came risk. The rain started intensifying and after some eccentric hand signalling between the umpires it translated into a decision to get the covers on. Play stopped with the scores being 156-6 off 33.5. The decision to abandon the game came about 20 minutes later with no sign of it stopping. It was a good battle whilst the game was on and Harefield 2xi once again showing they are more than capable at playing at this level. The 2s look forward to taking on Stoke Greens 2s this weekend. There are some extra fixtures that have been added to the calendar.
