Name: Mike Christelow Role at club: Spectator / occasional emergency umpire Nickname: Christles / Twins / Mike&Dave Years at club: Approximately 20 years Fact no one knows about you? I have captained a winning side in a game at Lords - yes, it was my old club side Pinner Cricket Club and it was on the Nursery Ground against Cross Arrows but the pride is still there! 1. How long have you been umpiring for? I originally took my Level 1 exam about 25 years ago when I thought I was getting too old for club cricket but nobody asked me to stop and I enjoyed playing so took it no further at that stage.. It was in In 2013 I realised that I definitely was too old for club cricket so started the process again through the Hertfordshire ACO. 2. Who do you umpire for? For the last 6 years I have been on the panel of umpires for the Hertfordshire League and on the list of umpires for Middlesex Youth games. 3. How did you get into umpiring? When I first started talking about stopping playing, my wife panicked at the thought of me being at home at the weekend and researched the name of the local league umpire co-ordinator! When I started again in 2013, I genuinely wanted to stay involved in the game and this was the best way for me to give something back to the game and the club. 4. What is your proudest umpiring moment? I was proud to be promoted to the Premiership panel of umpires after one year on the circuit for the Herts League and have thoroughly enjoyed umpiring for the Middlesex County Youth teams and watching the emerging talent. From a Harefield perspective, I will always remember umpiring for the club when touring in Rome and when we played against Old England.. (Not to mention having to go to hospital after being hit by a ball from Chris Harris' bat whilst standing at square leg when umpiring a Lashings game !!) 5. Do you have a place where you would like to umpire but haven't and why? After umpiring on the Dairy Farm and in Rome, I have no further aspirations on the umpiring front! 6. What one thing would you change about cricket? I would love to see cricket back on terrestrial tv to enhance the popularity of the playing side of the game for youngsters. It will be interesting to see what affect 'The 100' has if this starts next year but would love Test Match cricket there as well. Mike Christelow with a Young Tom Day, Former England & Surrey Cricketer Martin Bicknell and Fomer England & Esssex cricketer John Lever walk by.

Name: Michael Woodwards Role at Club: Cricket Secretary and Groundsman. Nickname(s): Custer – due to my long blond hair (yes really!!), silly hat and unsuccessful “last stand” batting 11 for the 1stXI at Harrow Town in 1973. Years at the club: 55 years, I first played at Harefield in 1966 aged 11 for the Harefield Primary School Team (which also included Barrie Knife and Phil Evans. We were coached by Geoff Cox our teacher who was Harefield CC`s 1stXI Captain. In senior cricket I played my first game for 2ndXI in 1968 and final game for 4thXI in 2016. Fact no one will know about you: I once dated the first woman to be appointed Controller of BBC One 1. What was your first off-field role at Harefield and when? What is the one thing in cricket you want to either achieve, watch or do?My cricket activities are limited to watching now, my playing days are long gone. I have seen England win the Ashes at the Oval in 2005 and in Sydney, Australia in 2011 so not much can beat that. I still want to watch England play Test Cricket in the Caribbean and New Zealand and I intend to as soon as possible. 6. What one thing would you change about cricket? Player behaviour -a return to times when umpires decisions were respected and players “walked” when they knew they were out. Harefield U11s in 1966 (Left of back row, Custer : second from right, Barrie
Knife : front row right Phil Evans) Name: Ben Cousins Role at Club: League Umpire Nickname(s): Ben is an Umpire, Umpire, Ben is an Umpire Umpire Umpire Years at the club: 6 years Fact no one will know about you: Despite being Irish I have never been to Dublin. 1. Who do your umpire for? I umpire in the Home Counties Premier League, Regional Appointments in the South Central Region and National Appointments, previously I did a lot of games through YO’s (Young Officials) but have since outgrown that scheme now whilst still being under the age of 25. Hopefully with a good 2021 I will be pushing on to the national panel. 2. How long have you been umpiring for? I did my level 1, when I was 15 and then having been doing bits and bobs since then but taken it seriously in the last 5 years. 3. How did you get into umpiring? An accident, I was helping out and officiating my brother’s games and the club offered to pay for me to go on a course, there I met a gentleman called Alan English who got me involved with the YO’s and has really mentored me over the last 8 years. Meeting people of the same age and who were good blokes, shout out to David Tooth, Ben Pev and Sam, really changed my perception of it and as I was never going to make it as a player, I thought this was a great way to invest my time to hopefully end up it being my career. 4. What is your proudest umpiring moment? Proud of a lot of the things I have achieved, it is quite cool seeing people you have umpired playing first class cricket, Jack Haynes, Jordan Cox, Dan Mousley etc. hopefully some of them will go on to play for England. 5. What do you hope to achieve in umpiring? To be on the first class panel. 6. What one thing would you change about cricket? Probably quite a lot, but one for article would be more behind the scenes things need to change for people interests and encouraging young people to get involved with the game, at the moment though it would just be able to go to Lords/the Oval for a t20 with the fella’s and have a drink.
