“The ECB along with the nation’s cricket players are keen to see the imminent and safe return of our sport at recreational level and have been working hard with Government to achieve this.
“We believe that cricket is a non-contact sport, with very low risks of exposure, and that it can be played as safely as many other activities being currently permitted. It is our strong desire to work with Government to see the return of recreational cricket on or around 4th July, as they continue to lift other restrictions more broadly across society. “We are heartened that the Government has already permitted the return of other ball sports, including tennis and basketball, and we are sure that our interpretation of the risks around ball transmission is consistent with these other games. “We can confirm that any guidance we share with the game will include directions on how to mitigate any risk from handling the ball as we continue to prioritise the health and safety of the cricket family in all our decision-making.’’

Squad News
There have been a number of exciting developments for Harefield’s cricketers over the winter. First of all, Ollie Richards takes over from Adam Seymour as 2nd XI captain, for their 2020 campaign in the Thames Valley League Division 3A, following Seymour’s successful stint at the helm that saw us win Division 4B in 2019. Furthermore, several of the club’s First XI have been making strides to play cricket at a higher level. Four players: Daniel Ogden, Jordan McLeod, Lee Tyrrell, and Stephen Croft, have been training with the Buckinghamshire CCC squad with the hopes of continuing to represent the county in the newly renamed National Counties Cricket Association competitions. Additionally, Jordan, Lee and Stephen have all been asked to attend MCC Young Cricketers training sessions, who compete in the County 2nd XI competition. At the end of the 2019 season we had to wave goodbye to our immensely popular overseas pro, Michael Barry. Both on and off the field, Michael contributed a massive amount in just a couple of years to the club, for which we are extremely thankful. Baz returned back to Auckland, New Zealand to go back to his club side, Suburbs New Lynn CC, for the 2019-20 ACA Premier Season. Regaining the captaincy for the new season, Michael’s Suburbs side were victorious in the Jeff Crowe One Day Competition, beating Parnell in the final, as well as reaching the semi finals of the T20 competition. Furthermore, it was a very successful season personally for the West Aucklander, who scored over 1200 runs in all competitions. We wish Michael and Sacha, his fiancée, all the very best for the future. New Player Profiles Harefield have picked up two young players for the upcoming season, Tom Marshall from Ickenham and Joe Senatore originally of Hillingdon Manor CC. Both played against Harefield in the 2019 season and will make excellent additions to an already strong squad. Joe Senatore Joe is an exciting young seamer that joins us from local rivals Hillingdon Manor CC. Having played both for and against Harefield last year, appearing for us in the U19 T20 competition, Joe impressed with his pace and ability to swing the ball and will be looking to open the bowling for the Second XI this summer alongside Dan Evans. Joe took 19 wickets in Division 4B of the Thames Valley League last year and will be hoping to repeat this success in Division 3A following his move and the 2s’ promotion. Tom Marshall Tom makes the short trip across from the old foes Ickenham to join us for the upcoming 2020 season, bringing a wealth of experience having also played for University of Birmingham CC, North Shore CC in Auckland, NZ, and most significantly Ealing CC in the Middlesex Premier League. Tom is also a regular for wandering side The Frogs, who played their first game against the Hares in 2019. Tom will make a very useful addition with the bat to the first team’s middle order, as well as being able to provide an extra string to the bow of an already varied seam attack, as we chase promotion back to Division One of the Home Counties Premier League. Hares Playing Overseas Following three players travelling down under to play for clubs across the Antipodes during the 2018-19 season, just one player made the journey this winter for the 2019-20 season. Matthew Ogden made the late decision in mid-September to join Lakes Entrance CC, who play in the Bairnsdale Cricket Association competition in Victoria, Australia. Lakes Entrance is a coastal resort and fishing town in Gippsland, Victoria, about two hours outside of Melbourne. Matt had an exceptional season with the Seagulls, topping both the batting and bowling tables for the club’s A Grade side. Matt scored 368 runs at 28.31, and took 29 wickets at 15.10, including best figures of 6/32. As well as playing for the club, Matt also assisted coaching both the men’s and junior sides and will no doubt bring back a number of newly gained skills with him when he returns to the UK. Below are some pictures from Matt's time away. Junior training is resuming at the club in small numbers as per ECB guidelines.
