In a game which the Buckinghamshire Academy side came second Jordan sent down 9 overs picking up 2 wickets for only 27 runs as well a direct hit run out. arefield 1st XI v Burnham 1st XI 12:00pm start
The 1st XI will play only their third home game of the season against fellow division 2 side Burnham. The Hares have come up against Burnham regularly in Home Counties cricket. In the previous 4 seasons the sides have met 6 times with the 1s winning 3 and Burnham winning 2 with a draw as well, so an evenly matched game is in store. The 1s are welcomed by the return of skipper Doug King, whilst Matt Ogden misses out through injury. Burnham have had a mixed season to date having won 2 and lost 3 games. They are currently 16 points behind 8th place in the table after last week’s defeat to Wokingham. The 1s are currently 8 points behind Burnham after last week’s defeat and will need 2 wins in the last 2 games to stand any chance of a top 8 finish. Farnham Royal 1st XI v Harefield 2nd XI 12:30pm start Harefield 2s meet Farnham Royal for the first time since 2018. The 2s remained unbeaten after beating Burnham 2s last week. This is the first of three 1st teams that the 2nd XI will play in the run in. Farnham Royal are in 6th place this year having won 2 and lost 3 so far. With Will Shepherd and Joe Senatore unavailable, it is likely Sam Beacham and Harsharn Singh will return to the side. The 2s are currently top and will look to maintain their unbeaten season. Harefield 3rd XI v Slough 5th XI 12:30pm start The 3s play Slough 5s this weekend looking to get their first win of the season. Slough 5s are currently in 7th place having won 2 and loss 3. The 3s are much changed from last week with gun skipper Moore unavailable and the return of P. Collett. A youthful first XI with Ogden Jr. at the helm turned up to face an experienced side away at Chesham with the Hares desperate to get back to winning ways after a gutting near miss against Henley and a rain off against Rowant.
Winning the toss and putting in the home side looked like a good decision when Matt Rance once again fell victim to Jordan, with Crick soon after taking the second and third wickets to leave Chesham in a difficult position. The return of Lee Tyrrell added another string to the bow of an already varied HCC seam attack, and his pace and aggression tore further holes in the Chesham batting line up and eventually returned figures of 5-48. When Chesham found themselves 6 down for just 87, Harefield had their tails up. However, Chesham’s number 8 decided to counter attack, hitting a quick fire 43 at over 200 strike rate, accompanied by Chesham opener Morgan’s resilient 50 took the home side to 151 all out, which seemed about above par on a sticky one with a slow outfield. The Hares knew that they would need a couple of people needed to get in, if they were to reach the target. Both Skipper Ogden and Hatton fell for 5 playing aggressive strokes, and while Matt Ogden, 38 (75), Tyrrell, 17 (24), and both McLeods T., 11 (34) and J., 18 (31), attempted to take the chase deep. When Fosberry and Croft both fell for 0 and 1 respectively, leaving just Crick to come, victory seemed unlikely. Despite some brief creative and positive stroke making from our number 11, the Hares disappointingly fell 33 short. While positives can be taken from the bowling and fielding performance, there is definitely room for improvement in all three disciplines going into the last two fixtures of the shortened season. Two victories from the remaining two games would leave us in a much healthier position in the league and would be more fitting based on some of our stronger performances. Match report written by Jordan Mcleod Scorecard: https://hcpcl.play-cricket.com/website/results/4457542 The 2nd team arrived at HQ full of confidence, after a blistering start to the season, starting the day joint top of the table. Unbelievably the skipper arrived ahead of the meet time for the second week running, and after assessing the overhead conditions and a slightly damp outfield, decided we’d have a trundle against the league’s bottom side, much to the dismay of some of the “senior” members of the side.
A new opening seam attack of Senatore (1-36) and the ever-present Ronnie Hirani (2-31) bowled smartly and kept things tight early on, with Hirani bowling a peach to nick off BCC’s opener, with a smart catch from Day. They were ably backed up by a rejuvenated Dan Evans (1-26), who looked back to his best with a slightly older ball, and Shepherd (1-25) who bowled the other opener, who was starting to look dangerous, with a beautiful delivery, nipping back off the pitch. The skipper (1-16), decided the over-rate had been far too good thus far and so offered up 3 overs of full tosses, long hops and the occasional jaffa. Like a young Mikey Holding, our very own “Chundering Death” had once again made the crucial breakthrough and protected his figures by getting himself out of the attack. Off the back of his player of the week performance last week, Scott Morris was once again the pick of the bowlers, despite a rare spillage from Mr 20-20 vision himself, James Knife. The Burnham middle order just couldn’t get him away and on a pitch that was offering a bit of turn, Scotty returned figures of 3-18 off his 8 overs. A superb spell, which gave the 2’s in-form top order a challenging, but below-par 152 to chase from their 40. BCC’s bowlers started well, frustrating Lippiatt and Shepherd with some tight lines early on, but Harefield’s young openers dug in, grinding out 40 runs and seeing off the new ball, before Shepherd chipped one up to the in-field. In quick succession, Richards came and went cheaply, Lippiatt’s stubborn resistance ended for 31 and Hirani was questionably given out caught behind, and out of nowhere, HCC were starting to wobble. While Petley scratched around struggling to get it off the square, Knife strode to the crease with confidence, bludgeoning the ball to all parts, making the game look incredibly easy, steering the boys closer to victory. When Petley put everyone out of their misery and nicked off for not many with 50 still needed, was there going to be a final twist in the tale? Absolutely not! Day and Knife confidently dispatched the remaining runs required with ease, leaving Knife unbeaten on 53 and Day 17 red, resulting in a comfortable 5 wicket victory for the Hares. A superb individual effort from Knife, who looked to be batting on a different wicket to everyone else! Possibly the trickiest game of the season to date for the 2’s, but a fantastic bowling performance, a much-improved fielding display and some gutsy batting has left the 2’s top of the table on their own, thanks to Marlow’s defeat. Three games to go, against three 1st XI’s. Bigger tests to come! Chesham 1st XI v Harefield 1st XI

Stoke Green 3rd XI v Harefield 3rd XI Harefield 82 all out (25.5 overs) Stoke Green 87/5 (17.2 overs) Stoke Green won by 5 wickets. Friday 21st August

Harefield 238/7 Harefield u10s won of the last ball, having needed 10 runs of the last over. Well done to the 3 boys who played their first game. Sunday 23rd August Harefield u10s v Ickenham u10s Harefield 283/2 Ickenham 190/10 Devan was on a hat trick for 2nd game in the row. Every Harefield bowler got a wicket. Harefield won by 93 runs. Chesham 1st XI v Harefield 1st XI 12:00pm start
The 1st XI will make the short journey to Chesham this Saturday. A side we know very well having played them 6 times in league cricket in the previous 3 seasons. In the last 4 games Harefield have come out on top. 2017 was the last time Chesham won a game in this fixture. The 1s go into this game without skipper D. King once as he is still out with an injury, so there are no changes to the side from last weeks abandoned match v Aston Rowant. Chesham started the season very well, going unbeaten in their first 3 games (winning 2 and abandoned in 1). Chesham have then gone onto lose their last 2 including a tight game last weekend against fellow division 2 side Horspath by 2 runs. The 1s are currently 12 points behind Chesham who are in 9th place and both teams will be looking for a win to maintain their hopes of a top 8 finish. Harefield 2nd XI v Burnham 2nd XI 12:30pm start Harefield 2s meet Burnham 2s for the first time in league cricket since 2009. The 2s continued their impressive start to the season last week with an emphatic victory over Slough 3s who failed to get halfway to our 2s total. The 2s will be looking forward to being back at home playing on what hopefully be a little bit friendly deck. Burnham 2s have somewhat struggled this season having failed to win a game so far. With many of the 2s lads having played Burnham many times over the years the boys know to expect the unexpected when coming against Burnham so previous form is usually nothing to go by. With S. Beacham unavailable it is likely Adam Seymour will return to the side, apart from that the 2s stay the same. The 2s are currently joint top with Marlow and will look to maintain their unbeaten season. Stoke Green 3rd XI v Harefield 3rd XI 12:30pm start The 3s play Stoke Green 3s this weekend looking to get their first win of the season. The challenge will be no easier for the 3s this week as Stoke Green find themselves 3rd in the table having only lost 1 game this year. The 3s welcome back Brett Moore as skipper as he was unavailable last week and will hope to put in a similar performance with bat as their previous outing. 1st XI
The 1st XI find themselves somewhat unlucky to be in 15th place after the first five games. Having two games abandoned has not helped the cause. Out of the other three, the 1XI beat fellow division 2 side Amersham very comfortably and lost two close games to division one sides, Henley by 1 wicket and Datchet with only 2 overs to spare. The 1st XI are currently 12 points of 8th spot and 17 points off 4th. With 3 games left, the 1XI will need the weather to be on their side and win all three if they are to stand a chance of finishing in that top 8. Individual performances: Matt Ogden is the 8th leading run scorer in the league with 176 runs @ 88. With the ball, Tom Crick is the 4th leading wicket taker having tallied 8 wickets @ 14.75. Will Hatton is the 6th League wicket keeper in the HCPL with 6 catches, whilst Tom Mcleod finds himself 7th in the catching department with 4 outfield catches. 2nd XI The 2nd XI find themselves joint top of the tree in division 3b. They have started the season extremely well, recording four comfortable victories with an unfortunate match abandoned. They have provided strong all-round performances each week. Whether they have bowled or batted first the 2XI have looked very assured at this level and will look forward to greater challenges in the next four weeks, where they have to take on the rest of the current top four. The 2nd XI are currently in 1st place, level with Marlow on 95 points and 16 ahead of 3rd spot. The 2XI have had some sterling individual performances: Will Shepherd is one of three Harefield lads in the top 10 run scorers in the division. Sheppy has scored 182 runs @ 60.67 (he is the 3rd leading run scorer), with Skipper Olly Richards 6th (130 runs @ 32.50) & Howard Lippiatt 7th (120 runs @ 30). Russ Petley finds himself top of the batting averages with 95 runs in 3 innings @ 95. From the bowling perspective, Scott Morris is the 4th leading wicket taker in the division having taken 9 wickets @14.44. Nakul Hirani and Sam Beacham also find themselves in the top 10 (7th and 8th) with 8 wickets apiece. With these facts and figures in mind it is no surprise to find two Harefield catchers in the top 2. Jamie Knife with 7 catches and Sheppy with 5. 3rd XI This season so far has not turned out what the 3rd XI would have hoped for so far. Having played 5 and won none, they unsurprisingly find themselves at the bottom of the table. Like the 1st XI the weather has beaten them on two occasions. The 3XI have struggled with the willow in hand this season, in the first two games, barely reaching the 30 over mark before being bowled out. However, their last time outshines a glimmer of hope with a very respectable score of over 200 versus local rivals, Hillingdon Manor 2nd XI. This hopeful should become somewhat of a turning point in the season and with a few more performances like that, the 3rd XI will no doubt turn it around. The 3XI are currently adrift at the bottom of the table by 15 points and behind 7th & 8th by 18. Individual performances to note: S. Bukhari is the 10th leading scorer in the division with 108 runs @ 27. Michael Norris is the 3XI leading wicket taker with 3 wickets. |
