HCC 1st XI v Great Brickhill 1st XI (A)
12:30 Start - 40 overs per side The first team will travel away to Great Brickhill, whom they have not met since they were last in the HCPL in 2017, when Harefield did the double over their counterparts. The first XI is looking to bounce back from opening day. In contrast to the past few years when it often has been the batting found wanting in pressure situations, last week it was the bowlers who came away most disappointed with their performance. We go and take on a newly promoted Great Brickhill side who lost a low scoring game last week to established HCPL division 2 side Chesham. In this shortened season it is vital to get off to a good start if you want to find yourself in the top eight come the end of the season. Captain Doug King has opted for the same side as last week with no unavailability issues arising. HCC 2nd XI v Wraysbury 1st XI (H) 1pm Start - 40 overs per side The twos will be hosting Wraysbury after last week’s strong performance against NPL after returning to Division 3. The side will be aiming to mirror the performance with the bat having scored over a run a ball for the innings last week. Wraysbury, like ourselves, got off to a perfect start with a win against OMT’s. This Wraysbury side finished third in Division 3 last summer. Like NPL last week, they will be a good test to see how far our side has come since 2018, where we struggled in this division for large parts. The two teams will meet for the first time since the TVCL structure changed in 2000. There is only one change for the second XI, with Beacham coming in for the unavailable Hanif. HCC 3rd XI v Chalfont St Peter 2nd XI (A) 1pm Start - 40 overs per side The third XI will make the small journey to take on Chalfont St Peter 2nd XI, the first Chalfont St Peter side they have played since 2017, since we played against their ones in division 5A. With captain Brett Moore once again available this week, he will be looking to get back to winning ways after last week’s defeat. The bar will be open from midday at the club operating under Covid-19 guidelines. Good luck to all three sides playing.

Harefield won the toss on Saturday and elected to bat first on what looked like a low and slow pitch that should become harder to score on throughout the day, given the great depth and variation of HCC’s spin bowling quartet.
Dan Ogden and Will Hatton walked out to bat in hot conditions, handling the tricky first few overs with patience, managing to get the score ticking over with regular singles and a few boundaries. After the two openers both fell for scores of around 20-odd, the score was at 47/2 and a bit of a rebuild job was needed. Up stepped Matt Ogden and Tom McLeod. Their partnership of 92 was made up of a lot of rotation of strike and the odd boundary. By the time that Ogden was out (40), the score was 139 and the middle order could think about a score upwards of 200. With McLeod starting to increase the tempo, this looked possible. As he passed his maiden fifty for the 1st XI, the score began to increase at a quicker rate, and a few eye-catching boundaries and good hitting from the middle order saw the Hares reach 200 after 37 overs. With Tom McLeod picking out long on in the 38th over after a well-made and important knock of 82, the score was 203 and the platform was well and truly set for the lower middle order to increase the scoring rate further. At the end of the innings the Hares had reached - what at the half way mark looked to be - a very good score of 223/8. The Datchet innings began with quick scoring and big shots from the two attacking opening batsmen, putting our opening bowling attack of Jordan McLeod and Doug King under pressure from the first ball. This run scoring continued throughout the power play until Matt Ogden backed up his good batting by taking the opening wicket – a turning point in the game. Tight bowling from the two Ogden brothers and Tom Crick brought the Hares well and truly back into the game, especially after Dan took 3 wickets in quick time, helped by sharp catching in the slips from Mcleod. After these wickets, the main partnership of Datchet’s batting innings was brought together. They had stayed ahead of the required rate given their explosive start and Hares could not find another breakthrough. The experienced partnership saw Datchet home for a 6-wicket win with 2 overs to spare. It was overall a frustrating day for the Hares, but one that some positives can be taken from. Two young cricketers, Oliver Stalder and Tom Marshall made their 1st team league debuts and certainly showed promise of being very good cricketers for the 1s for many years to come. The ones look forward to taking on Great Brickhill away this weekend. Harefield 2nd XI: 241/4 40 overs
NPL 1st XI: 189/7 40 overs Harefield 2nd XI beat NPL by 52 runs (scorecard found below) New 2s captain Olly Richards won the toss in the first game of the season and decided to bat against NPL on a stunning day down at HCC. Shepherd and Lippiatt opened up and got off to a flyer putting on a partnership of 88 off 16 overs before the first wicket fell with Shepherd given out lbw for 44. This brought out the new skipper to the crease, then Lippiatt was soon dismissed after scoring a well earned 42. Petley then joined Richards who after hitting a couple boundaries was trapped in front for 13 by the opposition captain giving him his second wicket with Harefield on 118-3 at this stage. Knife came in at number 5 joining Petley, both playing a destructive innings in a partnership of 101. Knife made 43 with four 4s and one six before being caught with only two overs of the innings remaining. Petley continued to dominate their bowling attack ending up with 62 not out off 61 balls hitting seven fours giving the Hares a strong total of 241-4 off our 40 overs. Evans and Hirani lead the bowling attack for Harefield with NPL starting well before Hirani took the first wicket with a sharp catch by Knife in the slips. Morris came on first change and it didn't take long before he was in the wickets removing the other opener. Raz and Shepherd were brought on in the middle overs and both picked up a couple wickets each to help reduce any chance of an NPL fightback. Morris returned to the attack for the final few overs where he took his second wicket of the match with a fantastic catch from Knife on the boundary leaving NPL finishing on a final score of 189-7 giving the Hares a comfortable win by 52 runs. A great way to mark the return to league cricket for the 2s with Wrasybury at home next up for the lads. https://www.tvlcricket.com/scorecard.php?Match_ID=8411 1st XI V Datchet (A)

HCC First XI V Datchet first XI (A) 12:30 Start 40 overs per side The 1st team will travel away to Datchet. The teams have not met since Datchet’s promotion winning season in 2018, when each team won a game apiece. We look forward to competing against a current HCPCL Division 1 side as it will be a good test for our young squad. The 1st XI are looking to build on their promising league campaign last season and aim to prove themselves against a Division 1 side on Saturday. After promotion in 2018, Datchet had a strong season in their first season in the HCPCL Division 1, finishing in 3rd place. We are pleased to announce league debuts for Tom Marshall and Oliver Stalder. Marshall has joined from Ickenham over the winter, while the 16-year old Stalder, who joined the club in 2018, has worked his way up through the sides with regular strong performances with the bat. HCC Second XI V NPL first XI (H) 1pm Start 40 overs per side The 2s will be hosting NPL as we return to Division 3 after winning the Division 4B title last season. Under the new leadership of Olly Richards, they will be aiming to have a solid year with a much more experienced side than the 2018 team, who were relegated from the same division. This NPL side finished 5th in Division 3 last summer, so will be a good marker to see the level our 2s are at. This will be the first time these two teams have met since the TVCL structure changed in 2000. HCC Third XI V Wooburn Narkovians second XI 1pm Start 40 overs per side The 3rd XI will make the trip down the M40 to take on Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI. The sides met twice last year, with the 3rds coming out on top in both occasions. With the young Brett Moore stepping into the leadership role (but unfortunately unavailable this weekend), the side will be left in the very capable hands of club stalwart Paul Collett. Good luck to all 3 sides this weekend. Harefield CC: 195/8 40 overs
Ickenham CC: 150 all out 39 overs Having won the toss and chose to bat on a good looking deck with sunny skies overhead, The Hares were looking to put a big total on the board to give the bowlers something to defend. Proceedings, however, started off in less than ideal fashion, losing the Ogden brothers Dan (4) and Matt (0) with the score reading 5-2. It wasn’t until T.Mcleod (61) and J. Fosberry (45) put on 72 for the 5th wicket to take the score up to 129-5 that the Harefield followers started to feel a little bit more comfortable. Some lusty blows late in the innings helped Harefield propel from a score of 135 in the 32 over, to a challenging final total of 195 on a slow and turning deck, with stand in skipper J.Mcleod (13 of 9) and Croft (23* of 16) hitting a 6 each to accelerate the run rate. The Ickenham innings started of in a similar fashion to our own, losing a wicket in the 2nd over with N.Hirani bowling a beautiful delivery first up to nick off their opening batsmen resulting in a good catch from part-time wicket keeper Fosberry. Hirani, working in partnership with J.Mcleod, kept things tight early on, producing a few edges and half chances which could have seen Ickenham 3 or 4 down before the 10th over had some early season antics been avoided. The skipper then turned to former Ickenham player T.Marshall, playing in the biggest game of his ‘career’, and M.Ogden with the latter producing a good accurate spinning delivery with his first ball, which wrapped the Ickenham skipper Evans on the pad in front of all three. From that point on, the spin quartet of the Ogden brothers, T.Mcleod and Croft bowled a combined 24 overs for only 76 runs, taking 5 wickets between them, and applying the breaks to the Ickenham innings, meaning that over 100 runs were required in the last 10 overs. This never looked likely and the combination of M.Ogdens (4-22 off his allocated 8 overs), 2 run outs and some good death bowling from T.Marshall and J.Mcleod ensured a win for Harefield from a good all round display with many different members of the side contributing well. https://harefield.play-cricket.com/website/results/4441479 Following yesterdays announcement of the 1st XI fixtures, here are the updated 2nd and 3rd XI fixtures.
